High School Admissions Process

About this Project

This is an interactive eLearning experience that informs middle school students and their families about the admissions process for different types of high schools in New York City.

Audience: Middle school students and their parents or guardians

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, eLearning Design, and Analysis

Tools Used: Articulate Storyline and Figma

Year: 2022

Overview

There are hundreds of high schools in the New York City area. These high schools offer a wide variety of academic programs, technical training, and extracurricular activities. There is such a huge variety that it can be overwhelming for middle school students beginning their search for the high school they'd like to apply to.

Within my current organization, a K-12 school, middle school students expressed a desire to apply to high schools across the city that appealed to their personal interests and future career ambitions. However, students and their families lacked the information and guidance to initiate their own research into high schools and the application process. As a result, many middle school students were unaware of the variety of schools they could apply for and continued their enrollment in the K-12 school most had been attending from a very early age.

This e-learning experience will help students define different types of high schools, identify the academic programs that appeal to their interests, and initiate an independent search for their high school choices using the tools given to them by the course.

Process

For this project, I collaborated with a subject matter expert to conduct an analysis of the organization's needs and goals. I also conducted extensive research into academic programs and high school options available to students in New York City and compiled resources for students and their parents/guardians to use independently.

I used Figma for action mapping and Articulate Storyline for the creation of this e-learning experience.

Action Mapping

I used Figma to create an action map of the project after discussions with a subject matter expert and compiling resources for families to use in their high school search.
